Philip is a gay man working for a conservative corporation. After his recent promotion, he needs a date for a company function and asks his sister’s new roommate, Emily.
Emily is an actress, waiting tables while starring in local plays and hoping for her big break. She agrees to be Philip’s date for the party, and soon they are attending one event after another together.
Philip and Emily click on many levels. Lines blur as the people they pretend to be start feeling like the people they are, causing a rift with Philip’s boyfriend Jason.
When Philip no longer works for the company, he doesn’t need Emily to play the role of his girlfriend anymore, but to his surprise, he can’t let her go.

This book is proof that love conquers all and has no restrictions, no boundaries, etc. despite what we may even place on it ourselves! I was quite intrigued with how the situation would play out. I thought that Emily would fall for Philip but that he wouldn’t look at her for anything more than a friend but they each found a balance, a safe zone within one another. I loved how they inspired one another and brought out new aspects to their personalities.
I loved most of the characters but I can’t say that I wasn’t disappointed when Jason and Philip broke up – he would have quickly pushed every last button that I have! I don’t like the clingy, emotionally-dependent type (male or female!). Kim wrote his part extremely well to make his exit a moment of triumph.
I really started to enjoy the book even more when Emily and Philip start their marriage and family together. It really opened up my eyes to how love can trump all yet still have its faults. It’s up to us to decide where we draw our lines and if we choose to cross them! This is one of my absolute, all-time favorite books now!
I received this book to review through Beck Valley Books Book Tours, all the opinions above are 100% my own.
