Top 10 Toys for Christmas 2017
All moms and dads know that when Christmastime rolls around, their child will most likely have one of the top 10 toys on their wish list. Waiting until closer to the holiday can lead to a frustrating and often fruitless search for the toys that are in demand.
If you can’t get ahold of them, it can result in a lot of guilt that you waited too long, so make sure you know which toys are going to be on the most-wanted list this year so you can do your shopping early!
Toy #1: Fidget Spinners
A fidget spinner sounds exactly like its name. It’s a toy that allows kids to fidget with it. Though it looks like a simple toy, it provides hours of fun and because everyone has one, your child will want one, too.
The design of the toy is basically the same regardless of the outer variations. The toy has a bearing in the center of it and then it has extensions reaching out from the center.
These extensions can vary in number. Some fidget spinners have two extensions, some three, and some as many as five. It depends on the brand that you buy, but the standard one has only three.
The toy is a ball bearing device that can be held with one hand and spun. You can get the toy started spinning on one finger, a thumb or start it spinning on a flat surface.
There are also tricks that you can learn to do with the toy. Kids love it – and parents do, too – because it doesn’t take up much space and it’s a quiet toy, too – which is something moms and dads can appreciate.
Fidget spinners are said to be both fun and helpful for conditions like ADHD, anxiety and autism. You can find this toy in different colors including gold, galaxy and glow in the dark as well as dozens of other varieties.
It’s also a nice toy for taking on the go, in the car, on a plane ride, or to an appointment where there may be a long wait time involved where your child might get antsy. Check out this fun book on fidget spinners as a companion for the toy – Fun With Fidget Spinners: 50 Super Cool Tricks & Activities.
Toy #2: Hatchimals
In the past, anyone who waited later in the season with a plan to buy a Hatchimal ended up not getting one. This toy cleared shelves and warehouses rapidly and it’s expected to be a top seller once again.
So if you plan to buy one, you need to do that as soon as possible. There are three stages to this toy. When kids first take it out of the box, they can play with the egg.
By gently holding the egg, they’ll be able to hear the animal’s heartbeat. If they knock gently on the egg, the Hatchimal will respond. When the child turns the egg upside down, they’ll be able to see the glow of the eyes shining through the egg’s shell.
One of the fun things about this toy is that you don’t know what’s going to hatch out of the egg. The process of hatching the egg takes a little bit of time and the anticipation is half the fun for kids.
As they play with the egg and hold it, the egg begins to crack. By rubbing it, the child can help the hatching process along. Each Hatchimal is unique and has the ability to interact with your child.
It grows up just like a kid does through babyhood to childhood. These toys can talk, walk on their own and dance. This is one of the toys where you may want to get a few of them, so that your child has the opportunity to get a variation of animals when they hatch.
On many retail shelves as well as online, you’ll see plenty of do-it-yourself experiments and games for kids. Not all of them are that creative – and they’re expensive to boot.
Some parents have worried about kids using Borax to make their slime, but there’s a different method that works just as well – and it’s safe. This makes a great kit you can put together as a creative toy for your child this Christmas.
Kids love toys that allow them to experiment, and by creating their own slime concoction, your child can have days of fun. Each slime concoction that they create can be unique because they can put in different things to change up the slime’s color or consistency.
Creating it is easy to do with safe to use ingredients, too. You need two containers of glue – the size that you would use to send with a kid to school will do.
Pour the glue into a bowl. Add two drops of whatever food coloring you want the slime to be. Mix with a spatula. Then add shaving cream and mix. At this point, the slime is going to be pretty sticky.
You create the slime consistency by adding contact lens solution. You just add the drops until it’s the desired consistency and you test that by just touching it. Kids can add things to their gooey slime like glitter and small beads or crunchy things like colored grains of rice.
You can also make glow in the dark slime. Once the slime is created, to keep it usable, you do have to put it in a storage container. You can buy slime containers in a twelve pack 12 ounce storage size that work great for keeping various creations fresh.
If your child is a bit older, such as tween age, they might enjoy making videos of their slime creations and putting them on an Instagram account where they’re very popular for people to watch!
Toy #4: LOL Surprise Lil Outrageous Littles
The LOL Surprise – Lil Outrageous Littles dolls are not only one of the top toys for Christmas 2017, but they’re going to become a hot collectible based on their popularity. These dolls come in a big round plastic ball that’s layered with seven levels for kids to unwrap.
Each level reveals a hint about the doll that’s inside and there are plenty of dolls to add to the collection. With the first layer, kids find the paper zipper and pull that down.
It cracks the wrapper and kids then remove that. The wrapper reveals a piece of plastic that’s wrapped tightly around the ball. When kids take that off, there’s a clue inside.
This clue will be something like one picture of an item plus a picture of another item hinting at what’s inside. Kids then find the zipper on the second layer and peel that to find the next clue.
By the time they get to the third zipper, they’ll find a surprise tucked inside that goes with the doll such as a little cup. Another layer will reveal another prize such as a pair of shoes.
They keep unwrapping to reveal an outfit. Then when they reach the ball, they receive a poster featuring the many LOL dolls. When they open the ball, they reach the doll contained as well as well as some accessories.
Toy #5: Drones
Drones are one of the top toys on Christmas lists for 2017. They’re popular because they’re good gifts for kids of almost any age (including adults). You can find them in a variety of designs that are functional as well as appealing – such as drones that are made to look like spaceships.
Some are made specifically for kids and for beginners. Many of these drones can be operated by using the remote that comes with the drone or through the use of an app on a smartphone.
They can shoot both still images as well as video and have the ability to make a lot of fun maneuvers like specialty flips. Drones made for kids are created to be operated more easily.
Many of the drones for kids are made of sturdier materials to help protect the drone in the event of a crash. Some of these will have things like bull bars. These drones operate on a Gyro system, which lets them have a stable flight and the ability to be operated from greater distances.
You can also find drones that have LED lights that give the drone a cool feature. This is a toy that not only allows your child to have fun on their own, but it’s also a toy that works well for family outings.

It has a memory game as well as one that helps a child discover problem solving. The robot has numerous play and teaching stages that your child can engage in. One of these is free play, which allows the child to play games.
Another command found with the robot is the drive mode. This works like a remote control app and allows the child to control the movements of the robot. It can turn left or right, turn around, make sounds and the child can change the emoji face on the robot.

Toy #9: Cozmo
Cozmo is guaranteed to be a huge hit with young or older kids and it’s slated to fly off the shelves. It’s a robot, but it’s so much more than that. It’s a robot that has a personality almost like a character that’s alive.
The little robot opens his eyes when you take him out of the box. He goes to work exploring his environment and thanks to AI, he has the ability to understand and adapt to his surroundings with situational awareness.
For example, when he’s on a table, once he reaches the edge, he understands the danger of falling off and will actually back away all on his own without input from the child.
Cozmo is interactive and has facial interaction. He can display that he’s happy to see you once he recognizes you. He gives different reactions based on the play and can be very funny.
He hates to lose a game and will even display a grumpy attitude when he loses. His behavior is backed by software, but he acts on his own through the use of a Wi-Fi connection.
He can pick up blocks and stack them. If you wiggle your fingers back and forth in front of him, he’ll try to smack them. Cozmo is so reactive, you would think he’s human.
