All Fish Faces Welcome

Educational, Colorful, + Fun!

As a child, my family wasn’t able to travel much. I spent 14 years surrounded by corn fields in rural Illinois. My expanse of knowledge relied solely on books that featured information and photos of places, animals, etc. that I’d never seen. The colorful photos in this book, alone, are fantastic; however, you get an added bonus of facts about an assortment of underwater creatures.

Parrot Fish

Parrot Fish

There are an assortment of Parrot Fish – far more than I’ve ever seen! They come in an assortment of colors and range in size from small to almost four foot. I learned that they bite the coral off in large chunks to grind and extract algae. The remaining is excreted and make up the majority of the sand on the reef. My particular favorite is the Rainbow Parrot Fish (Cozumel).

The Ocean is Life

Ocean is Life

We live on the interior of the United States and don’t get to see the vast ocean very often. It’s important to remember that the ocean absorbs 1/3 of the carbon dioxide that we produce and in return, supplies us with oxygen. Many of our medications, foods, and health-related products come from kelp, the coral reef, fish, and other ocean creatures. Did you know that 70% more of our goods come from the ocean versus the land?

About the Author

Tam Warner Minton

Tam Warner Minton

“In the end we will conserve only what we love; we will love only what we understand; and we will understand only what we are taught.” (Baba Dioum, 1968.)

Why write a series about Ocean Friends? Baba Dioum said it perfectly. I am the blogger/travel writer/photographer behind Travels with Tam, and the author of ALL FISH FACES. I have traveled to all seven continents, and am an advocate for citizen science, the environment, and getting out of one’s comfort zone. An avid scuba diver, I take many trips involving diving and the marine world, and I am a very enthusiastic amateur underwater photographer. I challenge my perspective, my confidence, my knowledge and my physical ability by traveling the world, and sharing what I’ve learned with others. My book series, Ocean Friends, introduces beautiful underwater creatures you may have never seen before! As a former university Lecturer and college consultant, I am a firm believer that knowledge is power, and education is always a positive force. Teaching people to love our oceans and ocean animals is the best way to preserving our oceans for future generations!
