Oh sweet child of wine! Alright, alright. I know it’s corny. But as a child of the 80’s/90’s, I couldn’t help but use this as my opening line.
The Lynchburg Winery is where you’ll discover a taste of the south that has been developing from two grape-growing, wine-making families for generations. Hidden in our hollows of Lynchburg, they have been creating sweet southern style handcrafted wines. Even better — now you can taste them — right on the square!
A Taste Test — In a Dry County?
Yep. You sure can! Since Prohibition, Metropolitan Moore County Lynchburg, Tennessee has been “dry”. I won’t go into all the details of how this has come to pass (because politics — ugh); but it’s 100% legit.
Lynchburg became my home in 2007 and if you had asked if I’d ever imagined drinking on the square, I would’ve told you: Not in a million years. But now that that it’s here, it’s a place I don’t recommend skipping during your visit.
When you walk through the doors, you’ll be greeted with a smile and a good ol’ southern welcome. The space is amazingly bigger than you’ll expect and filled with wine-related gifts and supplies. Deeper into the building, you’ll discover the tasting room, complete with a bar that is home to a sweet, informative staff.
Tastings are $5.00 for a taste of five wines. The wine tasting menu varies based on the time of year, availability of the wines, and seasons. As a memento for your visit, you get to take home the tasting glass featuring the Lynchburg Winery name.
The Sweet Wines and Sweet Southern Series were definitely the wines that made my taste buds sing as we enjoyed a tasting with some friends a couple of weeks ago. We came home with our tasting glasses and a bottle of Serendipity. It’s a Signature Southern Wine made from sweet muscadine and features a slight bubble. Everyone’s palate is different so come on down to find a wine you like!
Check out the current selection of wines available here. Each one offers a description of the flavor so you’ll know which ones you’ll want to taste (if available). You can also order online and save 10% when you order a case of 12.
If you find one or five that you fall in love with, consider the Wine Club and get shipments three times per year – February, Early May, and October. There are a lot of great perks to the club, too!
Be sure to tell the staff that the Lynchburg Mama sent ya!
Oh, sweet wine of mine – let’s go to the Lynchburg Winery!
