What do you do for a living matters! Our job, career, or however we earn money, are all a big part of how we define ourselves. Do you feel that it’s portraying the true side of who you are or is it simply a way to finance your life? We use this as a primary piece of information as a way to identify ourselves when we meet someone new. It also provides us with a sense of self-worth. Regardless of how you make a living, it truly matters!
Clocking in and out isn’t the the only time we have invested in our jobs. We have time in lunch breaks, commutes to and from, preparing for work, as well as unwinding at the end of the day. With this much time invested into our job, it only makes sense that we should want to do something we enjoy. It should bring us happiness and fulfillment.
This is why what you do for a living should matter — at least to you and your family. Not everyone will follow their dreams or passions nor will they work a job that fulfills their purpose in life. Before you consider changing jobs, you should keep in mind what your priorities are and how the change will fulfill you.
Unfortunately, not all of our dreams or passions hold enough weight to support our basic needs in life. We need to earn enough to pay our bills and support our families. This is where our priorities come into play. Your dream job may be to stay at home with your kids; however, without a steady second income, this may not be possible. You could look outside of the box to find a way to work from home or start your own business. There are ways to make your job work for you — it may just require a little tweaking.
Keep in mind that life isn’t going to be perfect – no matter how hard you try. Perfection is not our goal. Leading a happy and fulfilled life is what will achieve your goals of finding your purpose in life. Does your current job work for you or is it making you work? Take time to make a pros and cons list of what works and what doesn’t. Can what you have be improved or is it time to start looking for something new?
Tell us in the comments below as to how you’re making life work for you!
